7 Questions With New York BookTuber Ctina

The BookTubers are a specific subset of the YouTube community. They specialize in filming video reviews of books since video tutorials of all kinds are becoming more and more popular.

The beauty gurus give makeup tips, the ITs teach us how to use our gadgets and the BookTubers recommend us books via videos where they tell us exactly why to give our next best read a chance or what books it’s simply better to stay away from.

Here’s where Ctina comes in. The New York City BookTuber lures in her followers with engaging, spunky videos about her favorite reads. Browsing through her channel, I can pretty much say she puts a lot of work into her videos and it is my absolute pleasure to pick her brains in an interview today.

Make sure you stop by her channel, CtinaLoves2Read and follow this avid BookTuber on her quest to match the next read with the right audience.

Esther Rabbit: What would make you recommend an author?

The sure way for me to recommend an author or a book would be if their work keeps my attention and makes me feel some sort of emotion… as long as I’m feeling something it’s going to be an author I recommend. Along with making me feel something, they would have to be great at world building. I have to mentally be able to visualize what they are writing about.

Esther Rabbit: Many readers/authors would like to know the answer to this question – do you have a preference when it comes to genre?

I sure do, I prefer to read YA  and Psychological Thrillers as well as Fantasy. I am a mood reader, so it also depends on my mood but these are the genres I normally turn to.

Esther Rabbit: What do your followers appreciate about you?

From what they say… they love my energy and how “real” I am… I’m so glad that my personality can come across a screen in just a few minutes.

Esther Rabbit: Do you charge for your services or do you do it for the joy of book reviewing?

I actually do it for the joy of reading. I love to mentally disappear into other worlds and to become other people if only for a moment.

Esther Rabbit: Do authors approach you to read and review their novels? If so, are you open to this approach or would you rather take your pick and review what you consider appropriate?

Many authors do approach me for reviews. I do let most of them know if there is a waiting period for me to read their book… Most don’t mind and send me their books anyway. But I do my best to read them in a reasonable time frame. Sadly, some are still on the shelf waiting to be read.

Esther Rabbit: How do you manage to juggle life and book reviewing?

That’s a great question… scheduling is def something that’s important. The book reviewing itself isn’t really a long process at all it’s the whole reading that takes the most time, so I have to really set some time aside to read and really focus on what I’m doing for that moment.

Esther Rabbit: What are the 5 immediate tasks you hope to accomplish in the near future?

I do want to continue to make connections with other BookTubers and authors. I also want to continue to make videos that people in the book community enjoy.
