For the ones of you who are new to my blog, I’m Esther Rabbit, writer, content creator for authors and massive nerd. What’s your own definition of an author / indie author?

Maybe somebody who has the drive to write the stories they have in their head. Next they have the ambition to send them to publishers to see if they can find an outlet for their work.

Alternatively they might wish to try to market and sell their works by themselves. They love writing and believe they have something important to offer the world.

What would you do if you wouldn’t be writing?

I went to Art School. I love to paint and draw. I have also done a lot of music, particularly in the 90s, when there was the “rave scene” . I love all kinds creative activity, so I am sure I could occupy myself in one of these activities.

How do you manage to juggle life and writing?

I have two jobs, both teaching. These involve preparation, searching for material. One of my jobs involves travelling. Sometimes when I am travelling, ideas come into my head. I sometimes write on scraps of paper, so that I don’t forget my ideas.

Sometimes I am working out how a story will pan out, while I am on a bus or train. My best time for writing would be when my son is bed and things are a bit quieter. I have a demanding son and a demanding dog, who requires walks. If I have a day when I am not teaching I can write. From the middle of April to June, is a good period for me, as my teaching jobs are over.

I am balancing lots of things, marking exams, preparing exams, looking after my son/dog, doing work in the garden, while trying to enhance my writing career and express myself through my books.

What should readers expect from your next novel?

My recently published book is Adventures of Death, Reincarnation and Annihilation, but I have a project I am working on called “I am the priest killer”. It I is set in the past the present and the future.

It is shockingly dark in parts. It is written mostly in the first person. I am a man, but in some parts I write as a woman. It would follow on nicely from Death, Reincarnation and Annihilation, but in some ways it is far more shocking and disturbing.

Does the genre you normally read have a direct influence on your writing?

I read a variety of different genres, but it follows that an author is going to want to emulate something they have read.

Just how much research is there behind a novel? Tell us how it looks behind the scenes.

It depends on the story. For example, if I decide the story takes place in Italy, in the middle ages, I have to discover about the times, names of places, names of people of Italian origin.

Or if the story is about Celts, I know a little about this, but again I need to look into names, the culture. Sometimes it can even be small details, perhaps herbal medicine used at the times, or how the druids behaved in battle.

What are the 5 immediate tasks you hope to accomplish in the near future?

1 to try to promote Adventures of Death, Reincarnation and Annihilation, get it out there on the social media
2 Try to get some reviews
3 Enter it into some writing competitions
4 Finish the project I am working on “I am the priest killer”
5 Find an outlet for this book.
